Crafty schemer and dreamer Finian McLonergan has traveled from his home in Ireland to the mythical state of Missitucky with his homesick daughter Sharon and a pot of gold he "borrowed" from a leprechaun. Finian hopes to use the gold to magically increase his fortune, but things get colorful when the aggrieved leprechaun shows up, a bigoted Senator interferes and an impetuous wish is granted.
