The 2022 – 2023 Awards Season is Officially Underway

With tonight’s performance of The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window, the final show of the 2022-2023 Broadway season has officially opened — which means awards season is in full swing!

On Tuesday, April 25, we saw the Drama League nominations announced, with New York, New York and Sweeney Todd each receiving four nominations. Camelot, Some Like It Hot, & Juliet, and Shucked were not far behind with three nominations apiece. Winners will be announced on May 19, 2023.

The Drama Desk Awards also announced their nominations on Thursday, April 27. Shucked led the way with 12 nominations, followed closely by Some Like it Hot with 8, New York, New York with 6, and the Broadway-bound production of Merrily We Roll Along received 5 nominations. Drama Desk Award winners will be announced the week of May 29th, with a ceremony being held on June 6, 2023.

For both the Drama League Awards and Drama Desk Awards, Kimberly Akimbo, a New York Times Critic’s Pick currently running on Broadway at the Booth Theatre, was previously nominated and won Lortel, Outer Critics’, Drama Desk, and Drama League awards for its pre-Broadway run at the Atlantic Theatre.
